Kea - Tzia as the Greeks call it - is probably the best kept secret of the islands of the cyclades archipelago. Only a 1 hour boat trip from the mainland port of Lavrio (20 minutes from Athens' El. Venizelos airport), Kea is a large montainous island with beautiful beaches. Little known to foreign tourists, attatched to its traditions, it is dotted with windmills and chapels and crisscrossed by ancient stonepaved hiking trails. A real "must see" is the prehistoric sculpture of a giant lion, which tradition claims that to touch the tip of his nose brings good luck, The picturesque and ancient site of Karthea which overlooks the sea and is reached only by following the road through a wild creek, is another "must" for a travellers itinary. Harmony is everywhere, life flows peacefully. Ioulis the main town, 10 minutes drive from the port, is a big pedestrian village, built like an amphitheater. A two minutes stroll from the heart of the village, but away from the hussle and bussle, the rental property is built in three levels. Typical Cycladic, stonewalled and breezy, it enjoys a panoramic view from the terrace: the City Hall and its square shaded by plane trees, the roofs of the village and the hill of Kastro and in the distance, the sea, Cape Sounion and the island of Evia... Tastfully decorated in local style, the cottage offers a simple comfort. With two bedrooms in differend levels it can accomodate 4 to 6 people max. Shower room and a second WC, kitchen with tiny fireplace, barbecue possible. We recommend a car or motorbike (which can be rented easily on the island) to access the wildest beaches, but it is possible to do without it, the busses shuttleback and forth between the port and the main beaches.

Doll house in Kea Ioulida / Chora, Cyclades

Kea is the nearest Cycladic island to Athens and Attica in general. Within one hour from the port of Lavrio you find yourself to be on a gorgeous island and away from it all! If you want to "party all night", Kea isn't the best place to be. Kea is more about relaxing, strolling around, enjoying beautiful sites and swimming in clear waters. Of course there are several spots where one can have a drink and listen to music, but for pure "partying" you'd better choose another island... Ioulis is the capital of Kea (hence the unofficial name "Chora"), 5 km from the sea and is built on a hill side. The access to cars or bikes stops when you face the first houses; then begin the pathways and the wide stonestairs. Can't get more traditional than that! Our house is very close to the town centre; less than 2 minutes walk. It has 3 doll-like levels; 12-15 sq.m. each! It is very traditionally equipped and decorated, but also with modern commodities (LCD TVs, DVD-players, no-frost fridge, kitchen, washing machine, electrical radiator in every room). It has a kitchen room, a living room, a bedroom with a big double bed, a toilette room (with a bathtub) and a small WC, a beautiful terrace... ...and an incredible view, both from the terrace and the bedroom windows! As for internet access (I know that most people really want it), there are numerous spots in Ioulida with free wifi. One of them is equally accessible even in the house (bedroom), but not always... I also have a (wireless) wifi router that works with a data-SIM-card that I will let you have during your stay, it will have 5 GigaBytes for internet use. If you'll need more, we'll refill.

Are you seeking heaven? You will find it at the very end of the picturesque beach of Otzias, 5km from the port of Kea. A unique bungalow, in an incredible location, right by the sea, only 33steps from your very own beach-rock! The access to the sea couldn't be any easier, you could actually fish from the porch. This private mini beach seems like a dream, as it is a luxury rarely found at budget prices, but it is all very real. The studio is completely private &autonomous offering gripping views.

Hidesign Athens Traditional Stone House in Kea

The house is located on the hill of the harbor of Kea and its access is only by stairs (approx. 60 steps). It is a traditional one, built 55sqm by stone in the early 1900s, renovated with care, so that it keeps its traditional character and the feeling of its old use. At the same time it provides all the comforts of a modern house and it is easy and relaxing to live in. The view and the quietness are the biggest advantages of it.
