Rocky Point is a small beachside hamlet on the northern shores of New York’s Long Island, with sandy beaches and nature parks making up most of the community's footprint. The coastal village is an excellent destination for exploring nature without getting too far from major metropolitan areas. The region's primary nature parks, the Rocky Point State Pine Barrens Preserve and State Forests, are located in what used to be the largest radio broadcasting site in the world. Situated just inland of the coastal township, this communications center turned ecological reserve has several hiking paths and a popular mountain bike trail available for use.

Part of the greater New York metro area, Rocky Point is a prime jumping-off point for exploring the surrounding cities and metropolitan communities. New York's Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens boroughs — and their countless museums, bookstores, restaurants, and performance venues — are just a short bus or train ride away.

Rocky Point’s temperatures vary drastically from season to season, with moderate changes in precipitation throughout the year. Between May and September, you can expect to find temperatures ranging from warm to hot. Modest levels of rain accompany the first month of summer as the height of spring is the wettest part of the year.

Due to its proximity to Manhattan and the rest of the New York metropolitan area, there is an endless array of activities, festivals, and events to choose from that are easily accessible with the region's public transit system. Because of the harsh winter conditions that include regular freezing temperatures, the summer and shoulder seasons are excellent times to search for cottages in Rocky Point.

Rocky Point Mountain Bike Trail

This popular mountain biking trail is located in the Rocky Point Pine Barrens State Forest area and includes more than 15 miles of maintained pathways. While mountain biking is the primary activity, you can find visitors regularly hiking, horseback riding, and snowshoeing in the winter.

Sagamore Hill National Historic Site

Also referred to as the Summer White House, this former home of President Theodore Roosevelt is now a museum curated by the National Parks Service and is a part of their National Historic Places Registry. The 23-room Victorian estate and surrounding 86-acres are available for exploration, as is the walking trail leading from the estate to the beautiful Cold Spring Harbor Beach.

Wildwood State Park

This state park consists of more than 600 acres of pristine hardwood forests and a two-mile stretch of white-sand beach on the north shore of Long Island. Swimming in the cool Long Island Sound waters and hiking through the lush valleys are two of the more popular activities in the park. Though mountain biking, fishing, and picnic areas are all available as well.
