All about Los Cabos
Why you should book a Cabo vacation this year
Los Cabos, or ‘Cabo’ as it’s often known, is a tale of two cities sitting at the southern tip of ravishing Baja California. Party town Cabo San Lucas is famous for its beaches, bars, and clubs while its grown-up neighbor San Jose del Cabo majors on tradition, history and a vibrant arts scene. In between and linking the two is an area known as The Corridor, where luxury resorts sit between the desert and the sea. The whole of Cabo is easily accessible wherever you choose to stay, and its 350 days a year of blue skies, its beaches, flourishing food scene and the most awesome sunsets known to man make it a magnet for spring breakers and A-listers alike.
Cabo San Lucas
It’s hard to believe that Cabo San Lucas started out as a quiet fishing village – today, quiet is one thing it most definitely is not. Vacationers flock to Cabo to frolic on its sunny stretches of sand during the day and party hard into the night. Playa Medano, just south of downtown, is a very popular choice – it gets busy, but that’s not surprising, considering its many attractions. Clear blue waters and plenty of beach bars are a good start, and for those who like to get active on the sand, there’s beach volleyball, jet skiing, and kayaking. It’s also safe to swim, something to look out for on a coast where strong Pacific currents can render some places unsafe for bathers. Which brings us to… surfing. Cabo is a surfer’s dream with breaks for all, from beginners to pros. If you’re taking your first wobbly steps on a board, try Acapulquito, Los Cerritos or Pescadero, while Bodhi wannabes might want to ride the point break at Zippers.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly day out, head to Cabo’s downtown marina to take a water taxi to El Arco. This craggy, picturesque arch, carved from the rocks by the elements, sits at the very tip of the peninsula, where the untamed Pacific meets the calmer waters of the Sea of Cortez. Sea lions lounge and pelicans perch, waiting to have their picture taken, and if you take a glass-bottomed boat you can ogle the underwater life too.
For those without kids in tow, the showstopping sunset at Land’s End is the cue to hit the bars and clubs of Cabo San Lucas. Live-music joint Cabo Wabo, owned by Van Halen rocker Sammy Hagar, and El Squid Roe, popular with a young, up-for-anything crowd, are two nightlife hotspots.
The Corridor
Cabo’s Corridor is a 20-mile highway that connects the twin cities of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. It’s also the place where you’ll find some of the ritziest resorts – the stars of Hollywood’s golden age flocked here in the Fifties, and where Elizabeth Taylor, John Wayne, and Bing Crosby led, many a modern-day celeb has followed. If teeing off is top of your vacation to-do list, then this is the spot for you. The Corridor has no fewer than seven stunning golf courses, laid out by some of the world’s best designers, such as Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Tom Weiskopf and Robert Trent Jones Jr. Wild Canyon meanwhile, has a host of thrills ‘n’ spills, from zip-lining and bungee jumping to camel rides, plus the child-friendly, animal-filled Kingdom for the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of Cabo’s feathered, furred and scaled residents.
San Jose del Cabo
So you like your vacation a little more low-key? Then Cabo’s civilized city, San Jose del Cabo, is the place for you. Tradition and history wait around every corner, and the streets behind downtown’s main square and pretty church have become a mecca for art lovers. The Gallery District boasts a number of high-end galleries, displaying work by local, national and international contemporary artists. And from November through June, Thursday nights see a weekly Art Walk from 5-9pm – the streets are closed to cars and you can wander through, shopping and stopping for drinks and dinner at some of the area’s many bars and restaurants.
For an even more peaceful way to spend a day, visit nearby Estero San José del Cabo. The estuary has a special ecosystem where freshwater from the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains meets saltwater from the Sea of Cortes. You can hike or bike along a paved path through the protected wildlife sanctuary, spotting exotic plants and a large number of migratory and shorebirds as you go.
Experiencing a Cabo San Lucas villa
Whichever part of Cabo sounds right for you, we’ve got just the vacation home you’re looking for. So the choice is yours: do you want to party like it’s 1999 in Cabo San Lucas, chill and soak up some culture in San Jose del Cabo or find your own little slice of A-list luxury in one of The corridor’s high-end resorts?
Homes in Cabo San Lucas
We have Cabo San Lucas villa rentals from Medano Beach to Diamante and from penthouses to beachside haciendas. Swimming pools, hot tubs, and alfresco dining are what it’s all about, and many of our properties have access to beach club amenities such as fitness centers and spas. Relax on a lounger with a margarita before heading downtown to paint it red.
Stay in the Corridor
Crazy for golf? Some of our villas in Punta Ballena even have golf facilities on site! And none are far from The Corridor’s world-class courses. Take a 2-bed villa in an exclusive resort or a large home sleeping up to 10 people. Many of our properties have access to private beach clubs, and at the end of a long hard day on the sand, why not ask your private chef – often included – to cook you up a Mexican feast? Cabo Del Sol resort is another popular Corridor location, where we have a number of large villas sleeping up to 24 and perfect for a large family gathering or perhaps that wedding party you’ve always dreamed of.
