Verona Beach Lighthouse has stood on nearby Verona Beach since 1917, when it first began to light the way for vessels navigating the economically important Erie Canal. Over the past few decades, the Verona Beach Lighthouse Association has cleaned up this landmark and landscaped the surrounding area. Take a stroll along the beach to appreciate this piece of the area’s past.

Museum of Science and Technology

Located in downtown Syracuse, a 40-minute drive southwest from Sylvan Beach, the Museum of Science and Technology is a science-focused museum that features interactive exhibits for all ages. There is plenty to see here, from a life-size dinosaur exhibit to planetarium shows and a space dedicated to building with blocks and bricks.

Fort Stanwix National Monument

Fort Stanwix, 25 minutes from Sylvan Beach in Rome, played an important role in the American Revolution, when American troops successfully defended the site against the British. Today, you can explore the reconstructed diamond-shaped fortress and learn about this feat through guided tours and interactive exhibitions. The museum on site holds 500,000 artifacts, including ethnographic objects from the Oneida Indian Nation, historical items from the city of Rome, and military arms and furnishings from the late 18th century.
